Disability@Work’s Kim Hoque addressed the UCU’s Disabled Members’ Annual Conference on the Disability Employment Charter.

The UCU signed the Charter in November 2021, and it is now UCU national policy to promote it across the Further and Higher Education sectors.

Charter has now received strong positive endorsements from both employer and employee representative bodies. UCU, UNISON and Unite brought a motion to the Trades Union Congress’s national conference in support of the Charter. The Institute of Directors’ Future of Business commission, chaired by Lord Shinkwin, recommended to employers that engagement with bodies such as the Disability Employment Charter can effectively signal a business’s commitment to creating an inclusive workplace.
