Response to Work and Pensions Select Committee Inquiry Report on the Disability Employment Gap published July 30th

Using research from disability@work, the Disability News Service conclude that “MPs and academics have dismissed claims by ministers in their new National Disability Strategy that the government has slashed the disability employment gap over the last seven years.”

According to Victoria Wass of disabiilty@work, “progress looks different according to the indicator used to measure it.” This is recognised by the recent Work and Pensions Select Committee Inquiry Report, which recommends using multiple indicators to track progress in relation to disability and employment.

The latest disability@work Briefing Note by Victoria Wass and Melanie Jones tracks three different indicators and outlines their strengths and weakness as indicators of narrowing disability-related employment disadvantage.
