At an All Party Parliamentary Group for Disability meeting in April 2021 chaired by Lord Shinkwin, Kim Hoque presented Disability@Work’s main policy proposals for the National Strategy for Disabled People regarding disability employment and pay gap reporting, Disability Confident, procurement, trade unions, and national-level statistics. Angela Matthews (Business Disability Forum) and Fazilet Hadi (Disability Rights UK) also spoke in support of these proposals.
The audience comprised the APPG’s observer community and ten Parliamentarians, as well as senior civil servants, representatives from the union movement, the charity sector, and disabled people’s organisations. Kim outlined to the meeting the steps Disability@Work is taking to promote its policy recommendations, including the meeting Disability@Work and the APPG held with the Cabinet Office Disability Unit in February and the letters sent to the Prime Minister from both Disability@Work and the APPG for Disability calling on him to give Disability@Work’s proposals due consideration.
Kim also highlighted that Disability@Work’s main proposals have been included in the CSJ Disability Commission’s ‘Now is the Time’ report, which has been backed in a letter to the Prime Minister by over 50 senior business figures. The meeting received extensive Disability News Service coverage.
