The Centre For Social Justice Disability Commission, on which Disability@Work’s Kim Hoque is a Commissioner, has published a landmark report, entitled ‘Now is the Time’ which includes recommendations aimed at improving the employment prospects of disabled people across the UK, as well as recommendations regarding education, transport, housing and access to goods and services.
Several of the report’s key employment proposals draw heavily on Disability@Work research, particularly regarding:
- disability employment and pay gap reporting
- reform to Disability Confident, leveraging government procurement
- statutory rights to time off for both union Equality Representatives and Disability Champions
- inclusion of disability prevalence-adjusted employment gap figures in national statistics
Coverage of the report’s main employment proposals was included in Forbes, the Sunday Times, the Daily Express, and the Evening Standard, and an open letter has been sent to the Prime Minister with the backing of over 50 business leaders calling on him to consider the report’s proposals in his forthcoming National Strategy for Disabled People.
