Two Ticks research presented at Academy of Management Conference

Kim Hoque presented the research he has conducted recently with Nick Bacon and David Allen (Texas Christian University) on the Two Ticks ‘Positive About Disabled People’ standard in a very well-attended symposium entitled “Employer Branding and Images: Extending the Boundaries of Current Knowledge” at the 79th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management, 9-13 August 2019, in Boston, Massachusetts.

The research he presented, based on the 2011 Workplace Employment Relations Study, shows there is only very limited adoption of disability equality practices (formal monitoring and reviews of recruitment and selection, promotions and pay by disability; formal assessments of workplace accessibility etc.) in Two Ticks workplaces, and that the adoption of such practices is no higher than in non-Two Ticks workplaces. He also emphasised that, given the similarities between Two Ticks and the successor Disability Confident scheme, it is highly likely that Disability Confident will be equally ineffective in encouraging employers to adopt disability equality practices.
