The All Party Parliamentary Group for Disability has published two blogs detailing the work it has undertaken in recent months. Central to these blogs is the work Disability@Work has undertaken in collaboration with Phillip Connolly at Disability Rights UK to publicise across government the recommendations within Ahead of the Arc to reduce the disability employment gap, and to get these recommendations embedded into government policy.
The blogs outline the meetings held with the Cabinet office, HM Treasury, the BEIS Industrial Strategy Team, the No.10 policy unit, the Office for Disability Issues, the Joint Work and Health Unit, the Infrastructure and Projects Authority, the Government Construction Board, the British Business Bank and Innovate UK.
They also outline the progress made as a result of these meetings, notably the commitment in the Industrial Strategy white paper to increase the proportion of disabled people in apprenticeships by 20 per cent, the Government Construction Board’s commitment to place disability issues on a par with gender and ethnicity issues, and the collaborative work Disability@Work has undertaken with Innovate UK and BEIS to develop metrics concerning the number of disabled applicants and participants.
