Professor Melanie Jones reports five consistent findings across the countries of the EU on the enduring nature of labour market disadvantage for disabled people:

  1. A potentially important role for labour market discrimination
  2. Disability is a causal factor in low rates of employment
  3. The probability of employment decreases with severity of limitation
  4. Disadvantages extend beyond employment to include job quality and pay
  5. Disabled workers are concentrated in non-standard work (part-time and self-employment)
